The Foster Grants and Giving Foundation provides direct support for literacy and remediation programs throughout our community for underserved and underrepresented students while providing evidence-based, intensive outside-the-school-day learning opportunities and summer enrichment for our students by providing tutoring services, books, STEM kits, high-quality materials, college prep services, financial literacy, student business, student nonprofit management, on-campus field trips to after-school and summer programs, high-impact reading interventions and targeted supports, targeted mathematics and expansion experiential activities, and feeding programs. Our foundation provides these materials for students to use at home outside of school hours.

 

Our mission is "Helping the Helpers," which means providing direct support and resources to students, thereby supplementing and enhancing programming for organizations and individuals who educate and assist students, directly engaging the community, and providing direct programming to foster hope and guidance.

 

Our vision is to create a future where every student has access to quality education, fostering personal growth while pinpointing core strengths, identifying achievement opportunities, confirming aspirations, and diagnosing results to measure progress and success, ultimately enhancing the community's overall well-being.

Program Goals

​

1. Utilizing the SOAR Framework for strategic conversations that engage stakeholders in developing strategy and strategic plans that align action with Strengths (What we are great at?), Opportunities (What are the Opportunities?), Aspirations (What are our dreams and wishes?), and Results (What are meaningful outcomes?) to inspire change and highlighting organization’s that serve underresourced and marginalized communities values and strengths, while affirming the power of strengths-based, future-focused work.

2. Providing on-campus field trips to after-school and summer programs, offering underserved students educational learning opportunities without requiring them to leave campus.

3. Providing culturally sensitive books to communities of common interest that support literacy programs for students from underserved and underrepresented communities.

4. Providing books to underresourced schools to build classroom libraries and combat learning gaps and educational disparities.

5. Providing STEM kits and high-quality materials to underserved students and underresourced schools to increase student achievement.

6. Providing consistent and personalized high-impact and high-dosage (offered three or more days of the week) tutoring to struggling, underserved students.

7. Creating a College-Going Culture, which refers to the environment, attitudes, and practices in schools and communities that encourage students and their families to acquire the information, tools, and perspectives necessary to enhance access to and success in postsecondary education.

8. Engaging in Career-Aligned Educational Activities, which align career aspirations and educational programming that most efficiently prepare students for postsecondary goals.

9. Advising students on college and career choices while promoting their overall physical, intellectual, emotional, and social well-being.

10. Providing PERT, SAT, and ACT preparation, including study guides, online access, and tutoring.

11. Teaching underserved students business to promote entrepreneurial and innovative thinking, while developing their ideas and turning them into marketable innovations.

12. Teaching students about Nonprofit Management, so they can one day provide the community with the help they are currently being provided, while learning financial management, strategic planning, nonprofit governance, grant readiness, performance accountability, program structures, and performance measurement.

13. Teaching students financial literacy to assist them in developing lifelong money management habits, reducing future debt risks, and increasing confidence in handling financial challenges as adults.
